Lake City Vernon is a small city located in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, United States. The city has an area of approximately 4.2 square miles (10.9 square kilometers) and is situated in the northeastern part of the vernoncasino.ca state. Vernon Parish is one of the largest parishes in the state by land area and has a total population of around 52,000 people.
Geographically, Lake City Vernon lies within the Mississippi River Valley, which is characterized by rolling hills, forests, and numerous lakes. The city itself surrounds a man-made lake created as part of a flood control project on the Vernon Creek tributary of the Duralde Bayou. History
The area now known as Lake City Vernon has a long history dating back thousands of years, with evidence suggesting that indigenous peoples inhabited this region during pre-Columbian times. When European explorers arrived in the 18th century, they encountered various Native American tribes who used the land for hunting and gathering purposes.
In 1850, the Louisiana Legislature designated the area as part of a larger grant to the New Orleans Railroad Company. As the railroad expanded westward from New Orleans, it brought settlers into this region, which began to transform from pristine wilderness to agricultural land and later to industrial and residential areas.
The early history of Lake City Vernon is marked by the growth of small towns along railroads serving as hubs for timber, farming, and cattle industry. During World War II, military bases nearby supported troop mobilization efforts and wartime production, further accelerating local development. In 1958, a severe flood hit this area causing widespread damage but ultimately led to creation of additional water management systems.
